It is no wonder that Covid outbreak shook all industries worldwide, but the industry it shook the worst was undoubtedly the Food & Beverage industry, where not a single restaurant was allowed to cater to the guest on-premises.
From the perspective of customers, they saw the closing of their favorite restaurant, but from the perspective of an employee, it was the closing of their livelihood, maybe forever.
Burger King, an American multinational chain of hamburger fast food restaurants called on its customers to order from its long time rival fast food chain, McDonald’s & many other competitors in the UK.
As the UK is heading towards another lockdown, the restrictions will prohibit its restaurants to serve the customer on-premises, which might again put jobs of thousands of restaurant workers at risk.
While many people are calling it a marketing stunt, others are looking at it as an initiative by Burger King to help out other restaurants survive the pandemic.
In its statement Burger King read, “Getting a Whopper is always best, but ordering a Big Mac is also not such a bad thing.” Along with this pun, it asked people to support all restaurant chains to help their employees have their jobs secured.
Here is the whole letter:
We never thought we’d be asking you to do this. Just like we never thought we’d be encouraging you to order from KFC, Subway, Domino’s Pizza, Pizza Hut, Five Guys, Greggs, Taco Bell, Papa John’s, Leon… or any of the other independent food outlets, too numerous to mention here. In short, from any of our sister food chains (fast or not so fast).
We never thought we’d be asking you to do this, but restaurants employing thousands of staff really need your support at the moment.
So, if you want to help, keep treating yourself to tasty meals through home delivery, takeaway or drive-thru. Getting a Whopper is always best, but ordering a Big Mac is also not such a bad thing.
Take Care,
Team Burger King UK
In the big picture, these restaurant chains, amid this high time when even one customer matters to help a restaurant survive, proved that humanity is beyond the competition.
Soon as the letter was posted on twitter, it garnered more than 124.4K likes & +29.4K re-tweets. After the lockdown is imposed once again, all these restaurants will totally be dependent upon the online ordering, without which the survival of restaurants amid pandemic might not be possible.
